At last I have managed to gain an exclusive interview with Mozzer. Our pint sized utility player has eluded me since his last interview during our inaugural season. Dave speaks honestly about a disappointing season for himself, his best goal and some of his outrageous boots
OMH: How do you feel your season has gone?
DM: Not great to be honest Wheels don’t think I have ever really got going this year. Have had a lot going on so have not had the time to dedicate myself to the rigorous fitness needed to be part of Rangers fat club!!
OMH: Mozzer you have owned some pretty ‘outrageous’ boots in your time at the club what have been the best pair you’ve had? And what were the most outrageous!
DM: Got to be those marvellous red boots I had in the first season combined with the school P.E. uniform we had at the time (sorry I mean red t-shirt). Though the current gold numbers are quite snazzy.
OMH: Where is your favourite position on the pitch?
DM: I prefer playing wide right as I like to bomb on (belly allowing). Though I still feel I can do a job either wing or either full back. I’m also sure that geezer would prefer a larger strike partner than myself on the odd occasions I have been chucked up there.
OMH: How do you think we’ll get on today against Plough Wanderers in the Middlesex Semi-Final?
DM: Well Wheels I hope we win it of course. I don’t know too much about the oppo as I haven’t chatted to much to the oracle (Crofty) recently with regards to their form etc. As long as we perform as we have done so far in the cup then we should be fine but we can’t allow a repeat of last weekend’s performance against AC Masala.
OMH: I know you can’t make training anymore but who was your hardest opponent in training?
DM: Sadly and it does pain me to say this Crofty as he takes any advantage I try and get over him so personally he seems to pull out all the stops when I’m there to stop me from playing.
OMH: What has been your favourite moments while at the club (both personal and club wise)
DM: Personally it must be the goal I scored with my left foot direct from a free kick over at Birbeck College a couple of years ago. Club wise whilst it was a poor game I enjoyed the cup game against AC Carrera due to the battling qualities that we showed that day. Nicks penalty still makes me giggle to this day truly awful.
OMH: What part of your game would you like to improve the most?
DM: My unerring ability to think I am about to head something clear and for it to go strait over my head (me then muttering bugger under my breath) and then chasing back after the thing. Usually to loud abuse from Liggo and Clarkey!
OMH: What in your opinion has been your best goal for the team?
DM: Don’t score too many only ten to date and as people keep telling me penalties don’t count!! My favourites are the tap in on tour due to the anguish it caused skipper and a volley I scored 2 seasons ago which was my only goal that season and I was starting to think I was cursed because I had had numerous chances. Crofty completely miscued it back to me and I struck it into the bottom corner.
OMH: What has been your favourite Rangers game?
DM: Hammering those obnoxious pikeys the Harp 5-0 and playing in a fat club midfield with Crofty, Waley and Liggo we destroyed them and it was revenge for all the blatant fouling that they usually get away with.
OMH: Who is the most underrated / underachieving Headstone player?
DM: The most under rated player must be Liggo plays anywhere you tell him (though usually moans all day about it) puts in 100% every game and that’s all you can ask for really. Under achieving player err that’s a bit more tricky some people would take this too personally from me! Suppose I should include myself in here my fitness has been a disgrace this season and I’m usually better than this.
OMH: What’s the best bit about being a Ranger?
DM: The camaraderie between the lads we are a reasonably close knit group and the fact that we are still going plays testament to that. We have had a reasonably small turn over of players and the fact that we still try and socialise together as much as possible is excellent.
OMH: Who’s been the best player since the club has been formed?
DM: Got to be Mrs Moody sorry I mean Paul Jarvis. He has been consistently our best player (when he is not costing the NHS thousands). Has even added another string to his bow this season with regards to playing wide left.
OMH: If you could change one thing about the club what would you change?
DM: Not sure to be honest. The change in the cups to the strongest team has been long over due (though I’m sure Crofty will drop his pint when he reads this as I have moaned about it in the past) as it has been proved to work. The attitude to some players to promotion is disappointing as should be aiming to play as high up as we can.
OMH: Which tour has been your favourite? And what’s the best part of tour
DM: The best tour I have been on was Brussels it was immense all the darts, drinking etc was fantastic. The games weren’t the best but that’s not everything on tour there was a great spirit that year.
OMH: Which professional player did you idolise as a kid and who do you like watching now?
DM: Players when I was a kid I used to watch a lot of arsenal and of course the mighty golden boys so I idolised Ian Wright as he played like a fan. Watford Idols were Tommy Mooney and Heidar Helguson who is starting to show how good he is in the prem.
OMH: Who’s the funniest player at the club?
DM: Dress sense wise has to be Crofty with his Bin man chic, other than that Olly never fails to make me laugh.
OMH: Who annoys you the most?
DM: No one really comes to mind here, Clarkey sometimes comes across as too critical but as long as you realise it isn’t personal its fine.
OMH: Mozzer thanks for your time.
DM: No problem.
