In today’s interview, we meet Nick Reynolds who over the years has been blamed for the drinking culture that has wrecked our hopes of progressing!!!!!!! Apart from his drinking problem, Nick was also the Club’s first Chairman and he speaks openly in this interview about his reflection of the past and hopes for the future.
OMH: Hello Nick, How are you mate?
NR: knackered (breathing heavily).
OMH: How was training?
NR: Marvellous, my team won and your team got stuffed (he lying Ed.)
OMH: It was quite a good training session wouldn’t you agree.
NR: I very much agree.
OMH: Bit of space, bit of time, no crunching challenges.
NR: That’s the way I like it.
OMH: (mutters) tart!!!
OMH: Big topic at the moment . . . . . James Wheeler’s goal, what did you think about, how good was it?
NR: A bit like Frank Lampard.
OMH: Come on Nick it was better than that, I thought it was more David Platt like, breaking from midfield. Lampard is rubbish compared to Platt in his pomp.
NR: Lampard, I’m a Chelsea fan what do you expect?
OMH: I won’t answer that one. How do you think the season going for you personally and for the club.
NR: Not that good for me personally, a bit in and out of the side and my form hasn’t been that good. Last couple of weeks the team has been doing alright though we had a bit of a s*£t start though.
OMH: Why do you think that is?
NR: I don’t know, stepping up a level, maybe we were not quite ready.
OMH: Where do you think the season go from here?
NR: (pauses) Into next year.
OMH: Thank you Nicholas, I see you are going to be a very helpful interviewee. What is your favourite Headstone Rangers goal?
NR: Including mine?
OMH: Can I have one that you scored and one that you didn’t?
NR: Well my one against Lille Moulins, obviously.
OMH: You mean the one when you beat their whole team.
NR: Yeah, that I’ll do.
OMH: Why was that? Was it because it was against the French, in front of a big crowd and your Mum was there.
NR: No because it was the best goal that I’ve ever scored, I think.
OMH: Nice to score a goal in front of a crowd?
NR: Yes, obviously. Nice to score on tour in front of a crowd.
OMH: Yeah I don’t really know a lot about that. But never mind (Nick starts laughing). What about a memorable goal that was scored by someone else?
NR: I’d have to say yours (James Wheeler) last Sunday (December 7th) to be fair, or Simon’s one and only goal but that’s more for the celebration.
OMH: I missed it, but apparently it was quite a remarkable celebration.
NR: I need to teach him a few things (starts to laugh).
OMH: Yep, you have scored 11 more goals than he has, so you’ve had more practice.
NR: Yeah.
OMH: Tour, what are you feelings about Tour?
NR: I can’t wait.
OMH: Where’s your deposit?
NR: (Keeps quiet).
OMH: Yep, thought so. Nick where is your favourite position? You’ve played all over the place, you’ve played wide midfield on both flanks, you’ve played up front, centre midfield although you’ve never played in defence.
NR: I have played at the back.
According to official Headstone Rangers Records, Nicholas Reynolds has never played in defence for the club, although he has previously appeared at right back for 1st Headstone Scouts and Pinner Albion.
OMH: Shoot the manager (both start laughing) Where is your favourite position?
NR: Central Midfield.
OMH: What in the ‘hole’ or just a standard central position?
NR: Maybe slightly more attacking than defensive because I’m not good defensively am I? (Chuckles)
OMH: Really, I’ve not noticed that one (said sarcastically).
NR: You’re going to be a twat an all aren’t you?
OMH: Can I have your opinion on Skipper?
NR: He’s a legend.
OMH: Anything else.
NR: He’s got a s$&t first touch, naah he’s a good player works really hard you can’t ask any more.
OMH: Is he a good captain?
NR: Definitely, he doesn’t slag players off like some of his team-mates.
OMH: How does it feel to be an Uncle?
NR: Not bad, I’ve had a bit of practice over the last two years with somebody else’s kid.
OMH: But Samuel is your nephew Nicholas, you’re related.
NR: This is true, it’s a little bit more important now but …
OMH: Who does the little chap look more like? Simon or Nicola.
NR: I was going to say the milkman!!! (chuckles), Probably Nicola at the moment.
OMH: What do you think of the new training facilities at Viners? Better than Gayton? I mean it is always in doors which is a Brucey (bonus).
NR: It is nice, I like being indoors, but I do miss the fresh air.
OMH: I know what you mean but it is also nice not having to chase the ball miles.
NR: Yeah that’s true, especially with Dave (Morren) around.
OMH: Have you been disappointed by the numbers who have turned up?
NR: The last two or three weeks, yes.
OMH: Why do you think that is?
NR: I’m not really sure, although we are in the week’s leading up to Christmas and people have other important things to do.
OMH: I asked Richard Clarke this but he wouldn’t be drawn on it, what is your opinion on immigration into the UK?
NR: If their good looking let them in.
OMH: Good answer I can’t let you leave without asking you about Chelsea, how has the season gone?
NR: Top of the League (now third), knock out stages of the Champions League and still in the league cup (wrong Come on The Villa). What more can I ask for?
OMH: Do you feel a bit cheated by the way that they have just risen to the top?
NR: No, might have all the money, but you still have got to put the team together.
OMH: Do you feel a bit sorry for Franco Zola, that he has missed all this? Do you wish the Russian had come in a year earlier?
NR: I think Zola left at just the right time, at his peak.
OMH: Do you wish Roman had come in a couple of years earlier?
NR: Maybe, yeah but then we wouldn’t have signed Mutu, would we.
OMH: Well, yeah, but Zola is arguably better.
NR: Yeah but it’s time for a change, Zola gave great service to the club its time to move on.
OMH: Who should take the penalties?
NR: I still think that everybody should get a go at taking them.
OMH: How’s Gary’s car?
NR: It’s not Gary’s car it’s my car.
OMH: Nick Reynolds, thank you very much.
