Middx Cup Third Round Info

(Thursday September 14th 2006)

Headstone’s pre-season has been turbulent to say the least, any indication of a smooth transition into the team’s 10th season have been quashed over the last month and a half. OMH predicts what effect this may have on the season to come.

THE GOOD?

A smart performance in a friendly against Woodlands  United, from the Intermediate Division, has shown that amongst all the selection issues Rangers are looking good for the start of the season.

Three additions have been made to the squad, with the possibility of one more.

THE BAD?

Matt Wheeler (knee), Gary Allen (abdomen), Paul Rossodivita (Knee), Andy Carr (arm), Ben Aitken (leg) and new signing Carl Grayson (back) are all injured. Paul Dutton, Olly Cotton and James Chandler have all joined the list more recently.

The first friendly ended up with further injuries and a soft 3-0 defeat.

Lack of numbers for training and for games has tested the club to the limit already

THE UGLY? Player politics was to be the topic for much of August. After a dispute with the club over it’s policies. Former Assistant Manager and current Coach Dave Reynolds resigned and midfielder Nick Reynolds was released

THE CHANGES?

The first change for the new campaign was decided at the AGM. Phil Crowcroft was voted in as the new Assistant Manager after Dave Reynolds stepped down due to work commitments.

Months of speculation was ended, at the end of season awards do, as Richard Clarke was named the new Team Captain.

Later the same evening Manager Geoff Wheeler and club Secretary James Wheeler were awarded honorary positions for all their hard work over the last 10 years. Geoff was made Life President and James was made Life Vice-President

Paul Dutton was awarded the role of Club Captain after his decision to step down from the First Team Captaincy.

The only other change was in the back room staff, Paul Rossodivita agreed to fill the Social Secretary role vacated by James Chandler.

THE SIGNINGS? Gary Alford, Carl Grayson the return of Steve Wale and possibly Don Ellam show Ranger’s strong ambition for the coming season

THE DEPARTURES?

Dave and Nick Reynolds have gone (see above)

Sadly James Clarke confirmed that due to working commitments he no longer saw any reason to continue playing and retired indefinitely.

THE LEAGUE?

Rangers are usually slow out of the trap, but a decent off season performance against Woodlands United has shown themselves to be in some form.

Prediction: Top Three

THE CUPS?

A good run in one of the cups is not out of the question, they certainly have the team to do it.

Predictions: Jack Walker – early round exit

League Trophy – early round exit

Middlesex Cup – Final not beyond them

THE RIVALS? AFC Harrow & Greenford Celtic should be up there in the league, but everyone wants to beat Headstone Manor and some of their former team mates.
PLAYERS TO WATCH?

Nick Wale is always one to watch, he’ll be looking to get into double figures for goals.

The most interest will be centred around new signings Gary Alford and the return of Steve Wale to see what they can bring into the midfield.
